We love Halloween SO MUCH and we want you to love it too! After the stress of the past couple years we could all use a little more fun and some distractions from the real world. Let’s bring our neighbourhood together and find some joy where we can!
We’ll give you plenty of tips for celebrating safely, some general Halloween advice and lots of ideas to get you in the spooky spirit — though you don’t have to go as overboard as we do with the decorations!
Why Halloween?
Blame the Americans! No, really: Our family is half American, so celebrating Halloween was kind of inevitable. Sure, it’s tacky. It’s over-the-top, ridiculous, garish and gruesome. It’s also fun and creative and exciting. It’s not just an excuse to beg sweets from strangers. It’s a chance to pretend to be something you’re not: A monster, a superhero, a real-life hero. It’s a creative outlet for weird ideas, pop culture obsessions, morbid curiosity and plenty of things people don’t acknowledge in everyday polite society.
We invite you to join us in letting down your hair. For one day don’t worry what’s proper and polite or what the neighbours might think. Enjoy your moment of being weird, scary, horrible, glamorous, scandalous, gruesome or strange. Embrace your secret hidden tackiness — revel in it! — and tomorrow you can go back to being normal.
